Lean Leadership for Construction Professionals

Lean Project Delivery can help deliver projects more efficiently, while enhancing productivity, and improving profitability throughout the construction project. Lean Construction has demonstrated its ability to minimize costs and maximize value for all project participants. Join us for a highly interactive two-day workshop offered in collaboration with Shift2Lean and 360PMO which shall introduce learners to fundamental benefits, principles, tools and techniques of Lean Construction.

Learning Outcomes

The workshop shall include case-studies and simulations that introduces Lean Project Fundamentals and practices for construction professionals. We’ll cover the process and requirements of the Last Planner® System (LP®S), and you’ll learn how to improve productivity and deliver high value in less time, at lower cost, with reduced risk. At the end of this workshop, participants will understand:

  • Lean values, principles, and practices
  • How to understand systems and identify sources of waste
  • How to Improve your processes in the organization and engage your people
  • How to sustain greater throughput by improving quality, reducing fire-fighting, enable smooth operations and lower operating cost
  • Define different types of variation in the design & construction process
  • Explain & distinguish the concepts of throughput, cycle time and work in progress
  • Describe the role of variation in production operations
  • Identify sources of waste in construction settings and corresponding mitigation techniques
  • Develop a Pull Plan
  • Track key metrics in Pull Plan execution
  • Appreciate the power of Team collaboration

Agenda

Day 1: Understanding Lean Fundamentals – The participants will learn the fundamentals of the Lean Construction and the Lean Project Delivery (LPD). Day 1 of the workshop shall focus on the Lean Mindset, Lean thinking House and in-depth knowledge about the Lean principles. The participants will develop an understanding of various terminologies used in Lean Construction

Day 2: Lean Project Delivery – Through the review of core Lean learning materials, case studies, and hands-on simulations, participants will learn how implementing Lean Construction principles on their projects enables project teams to interact in a collaborative environment to plan work that will produce predictable and reliable workflow, delivering high value in less time, at lower cost, with reduced risk.

In a structured environment, using the Villego system to simulate a construction site, each team builds a Lego building. In the first round, based on traditional delivery methodologies, we baseline the team’s planning and building capabilities. Next, we learn the Last Planner® System and how it is used to plan and execute projects with collaboration, discipline and accountability. In the second round, we test the newly acquired LP®S knowledge and measure the results.

The Villego simulation typically creates the “aha” moment in understanding how LP®S can improve project workflow with last planners collaborating to deliver increased value for building owners, designers, constructors, trades and the supply chain
